What Is a Withdrawal?

All students who withdraw will be charged a $75 withdrawal fee.

The University uses the term withdraw to formally indicate that a student has dropped or will drop all courses in a given term. Any leave of absence constitutes a withdrawal, regardless of whether the student provides notification of their intent.

Withdrawing from the university differs from dropping one or several classes within a given semester, because as long as a student retains at least one class, he or she is still considered to be registered for that semester.

There are multiple types of leaves of absence, including those arising from voluntary and involuntary circumstances. Your school may offer leave types beyond those covered in University policy. Your school will approve your leave of absence request and type.

Students who plan to withdraw permanently or take a temporary leave of absence should be mindful of the following considerations:

  • School approval requirements
  • Program standing and degree pursuit
  • Financial ramifications
  • Re-entry and/or readmission requirements
  • Corresponding re-entry deposit costs
  • Interim and ongoing access to university privileges and school services

If you withdraw, a statement will be added to your transcript indicating that you withdrew from the University.

It is extremely important that you consult with your advisor and school before you file a withdrawal.
