Book a Registrar-Managed Classroom
Related Pages
The classrooms managed by the Office of the Registrar primarily support the academic mission of the university – but also support student groups and events on campus. Scheduling priority is given to courses and academic components associated with a course (such as discussion/recitation sections, review sessions and exams), before department and student events. A list of classrooms and their attributes can be found on the Registrar website.

Reserving Classroom Space
After course assignments for a term are completed, classrooms become available to faculty, students, and staff to schedule only course-related activities. These are defined as components associated with a course such as discussion/recitation sections, make-up classes, review sessions and midterm exams.
All course-related requests must be submitted through [email protected]. Please be sure to provide complete course information (subject, course number, section) and all relevant reservation information such as date(s), time, expected room capacity etc.
Please avoid submitting duplicate inquiries as they can cause longer response times.
During the first three weeks of each fall and spring semester, the Office of the University Registrar does not fulfill requests for non-course events in Registrar-managed classrooms. Because this period is always a critical time of shifting enrollments for courses, we must prioritize the classroom needs of our teaching Faculty for course related instruction only.
All non-course related requests must be submitted through Event Management System (EMS), where you can see whether the space you desire is available at a given time. All requests for non-course events will be honored beginning the fourth week of the term.
Faculty and staff will need to fill out a form to create an EMS account if they do not already have one. Students associated with recognized student groups may need to send an email to request an EMS account if one does not exist for that group.
Visit the Event Management website for additional instructions on completing these steps.
- Available classrooms can be reserved seven days a week in accordance with current policies and building hours.
- Food, beverages, and alcohol are not permitted in classrooms.
- Specific rooms may or may not be available at any given time. It is best to have two or three acceptable classrooms in mind when attempting to book a space.
- Room reservations for academic courses end after the last day of each semester and do not continue into the study or exam period.
- The use of classrooms must be in line with current Registrar and University event policies for affiliates and students. Events must constitute official University activity, be sponsored by a department, or be organized by a recognized student group.
- While there is no fee for academic or student use of classrooms, there are fees for non-academic use. Depending on the needs of the event, there may be additional charges assessed by Columbia Facilities & Operations and/or Columbia Public Safety.
